What does it really mean to live as citizens of both heaven and earth? It is a question that matters for everyone trying to walk with Jesus in the middle of everyday life. Pastor Josh Baird lifts this idea straight from Scripture and brings it into the places where we actually live, such as our homes, our schools, our neighborhoods, and our workplaces. Being a part of a non denominational church often reminds us that while our feet may be firmly planted in Gainesville or Nokesville, our hearts belong to something much bigger.

This time of year, as winter starts to loosen its grip and hints of spring show up, we naturally think about new beginnings. It is the perfect season to ask ourselves how we are living out our faith in both the seen and unseen parts of life. Our role as believers is not just to wait for heaven but to reflect its light where we live right now. That is what this is about: learning how to carry heaven with us into daily moments that matter.

Living in Two Places at Once

Scripture makes it clear that those who follow Jesus have a new identity. Philippians 3:20 says, “Our citizenship is in heaven.” But while heaven is our true home, we still live here on earth in a very real way. That means we carry a dual identity with a clear purpose.

Living as citizens of heaven changes everything. It reshapes how we see time, people, choices, and even hardships. Things that used to feel like the center now take their place beneath God’s bigger plan. Success is not just about climbing a ladder or collecting things; it is about walking with Jesus and showing His love wherever we are.

When we realize our lives are part of something eternal, it shifts our focus. We are not here by accident. God placed us in our communities, schools, and families on purpose. Even as we handle everyday challenges, we do it with eyes fixed on where our true home is. That truth gives us peace and clears away some of the pressure this world tries to stack up.

Shining a Light in Our Communities

Whether we are in Nokesville or Gainesville, we are surrounded by people watching how we live. How we live can either point them toward Jesus or push them away. The way we speak, the way we help, and the way we choose honesty over shortcuts all matter.

We do not have to preach on a street corner to shine God’s light.

Everyday actions tell the story.

• Holding the door for someone who is struggling

• Checking in on a neighbor who seems lonely

• Showing kindness when someone cuts us off in traffic

These simple things can be powerful. They show that Jesus lives in us.

Think about how Jesus described us as “the light of the world” in Matthew 5. That does not mean we walk around trying to be perfect. It means we let God’s love be visible in how we live each day. Offering forgiveness, standing for what is right, and making time to serve others are where that light shines brightest.

Staying Connected to Heaven’s Purpose

If we are meant to live differently, how do we stay connected to that purpose? One way is by remaining close to God through prayer and the Bible. These daily habits might seem small, but they are the foundation of a strong faith.

Reading Scripture reminds us of who God is and who we are in Him. It gives us wisdom for today and hope for tomorrow. Prayer gives us space to be real with God, to ask for help, and to listen for what He wants us to do. We are not meant to figure it all out on our own.

The Holy Spirit helps with this. When we feel unsure or overwhelmed, He helps guide our thoughts and choices. Whether we are making decisions at work, handling parenting challenges, or wrestling with doubt, we do not have to do it on our own strength. God’s Spirit leads us with peace and truth. Staying connected keeps us grounded no matter what comes our way.

Facing Everyday Life with Kingdom Confidence

Being a citizen of heaven does not mean life gets easy. We still face stress, conflict, and tough seasons. The difference is in how we face them. When our identity comes from belonging to God, we do not crumble under pressure. We stand with a deeper kind of confidence.

Family conflict, school demands, or a hard day at work can all get heavy. We are reminded that we are not walking through it alone. God sees us. He walks with us. He gives us what we need, not just to survive, but to care for others along the way.

Faith gives us the courage to slow down, to listen, and to forgive. It helps us choose humility when we would rather argue. It shows up in how we lift others up even when we feel low ourselves. Living with kingdom confidence means we keep showing up with love, not fear.

Worship and Community for Citizens of Heaven

Your local faith community is a vital place to experience this dual citizenship. At Love Church in Nokesville, Virginia, Sunday services meet at 9 AM and 11 AM, offering a space for both worship and connection. Kids ministry, available for children from birth through grade 5, supports families in teaching their children about Jesus from a young age. Being involved in Sunday gatherings helps keep us rooted as citizens of heaven while serving our neighbors on earth.

Reclaiming Our Place in the Bigger Story

Being citizens of heaven shapes the way we see this life. We are not just passing time or checking boxes. We are called to live with purpose. God does not waste where we are or what we are going through. Every day is part of the bigger story He is writing.

That story includes real people and real places, including your family, school, or workplace. Our role is to live it with boldness and love, knowing that what we do matters. Whether we are making a difference in the world or quietly encouraging one person, we are stepping into the life God made for us.

Identity, community, and spiritual connection are all part of that calling. When we remember our true home is in heaven, we carry that hope with us wherever we are. It reminds us not to give up and not to settle for less than the life God designed.

Living Like Heaven Matters Now

When we live like citizens of heaven, we are not waiting to start our lives with Christ someday; we are living them now. Each conversation, each choice, and each act of love becomes part of that heavenly story. Life here is full of challenges and beauty, and our faith helps us respond with grace in both.

We do not walk alone. God’s Spirit is with us, guiding, teaching, and reminding us that we belong to something eternal. So we move forward with peace in our hearts and purpose in our steps, letting our lives reflect the hope of heaven right where we are.
