God's Love Language | Pastor Josh Baird

Pastor Josh Baird recently delivered a thought-provoking sermon focused on what he calls God's love language. Understanding how God communicates His love can help us grow closer to Him and change how we live each day. This idea encourages us to pause and think about our faith and the ways we show our love and devotion to God in everyday moments.

God’s love language becomes clearer when we start to think about what brings Him delight and how we can align our choices with His desires. It’s not just about feeling inspired by faith. It’s about living it out through our actions. By turning to scripture and learning from the teachings of Jesus, we see how obeying God’s commands plays a key role in showing our love back to Him.

Love Demonstrated Through Obedience

One powerful point Pastor Josh makes is the connection between love and obedience. In John 14:15, Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” He isn’t giving us rules to follow just to be strict. Instead, He speaks from the heart, calling us into a relationship that thrives on love shown through trust and actions.

Obedience, in this case, grows out of a deeper understanding of who God is and what He wants for us. It’s not about blindly following. It’s about truly caring, trusting, and making choices in line with His wisdom. When we obey Him, we’re saying with our actions, “God, I love you and I believe in your plan.”

Here are ways we can express love through obedience:

- Spend time in prayer, asking God for direction.

- Show kindness and help others.

- Read the Bible and think about how it applies to your life.

Obedience and love go hand-in-hand. When we follow through with what God has asked of us, it shows that we trust Him and want to grow closer. Like with any healthy relationship, it takes listening and following through to show genuine care.

Understanding and Accepting God's Commandments

To fully live out God’s love language, it begins with accepting His commandments as truth. That means trusting that what God says in the Bible is right, good, and worth building our lives upon. When we truly believe that, it shapes our actions.

Belief and obedience are tied closely together. It’s hard to follow someone if you don’t believe in what they’re saying. But when you believe that God’s word is solid and trustworthy, it becomes much easier to follow His lead. Accepting His teachings lays the foundation for a life full of purpose and faith.

Think of it like building a house. Before anything else, you need a strong foundation so the house can stand firm. In the same way, our faith needs the solid footing of God’s truth so that our actions make sense and have meaning. Once we trust the foundation, how we choose to live can reflect our love and commitment to Him.

Letting His commandments shape our choices also helps others see God's presence in our lives. And that can inspire them to want something similar for themselves.

The Cost of Discipleship

Following Jesus means living differently. In Luke 14:25-33, Jesus challenges us to count the cost of being His disciple. That means putting Him first, even ahead of our families, careers, routines, and plans.

This might sound hard at first. But it’s about understanding that choosing Jesus comes with real commitments. You may need to let go of past habits or personal dreams. But what you gain in return is a deep, meaningful life with purpose and peace that can’t be found anywhere else.

Jesus uses powerful images to describe discipleship. He says that being His follower is like carrying your own cross. It means choosing to keep going even when things are hard. It means surrendering your life to God’s plan.

He also talks about a builder making sure they have everything needed before starting a project or a king preparing for battle. These examples help us see that faith isn’t just a decision in the moment. It’s a lifelong choice that requires planning, reflection, and full commitment.

Even when it's challenging, walking with Jesus brings joy, peace, and guidance through every season. And when you live for Him with all your heart, others can see the difference in the way you love, lead, and serve.

Influencing Others Through Consecration

Living a life that’s set apart for God's purpose doesn’t just affect you. It shines light into the lives of those around you. Jesus described His followers as the salt of the earth and the light of the world in Matthew 5:13-16. Salt brings flavor and preserves. Light shows the way. As believers, we are called to do the same.

When your life reflects God’s love—through your words, your choices, and your attitude—others notice. You don’t need to be loud or flashy. Small acts of kindness and faithfulness can help others experience the presence of God. Your life becomes a living example of His truth and grace.

Being set apart, or consecrated, doesn’t mean you’re perfect. It means you’re committed. You decide to follow God's way, even when it's not easy. And that quiet strength draws people in. It might open the door to faith conversations or even bring someone to church. You get to be part of the bigger story God is writing in someone’s life.

Your actions can help reveal what it means to live a life led by faith, love, and truth. When people see something different in you, they become curious about what gives your life meaning. That’s where lasting discipleship starts.

Living God's Way Every Day

Putting all of this into practice means letting God’s love shape your daily life. It starts small. It’s about being intentional with your time, your thoughts, and your actions.

Try these simple ideas to live out God’s love language:

1. Begin your day with a moment of prayer and focus. Ask for wisdom and peace.

2. Open your Bible regularly and read with an open heart. Let His word guide your responses.

3. Look for ways to help someone around you, whether that’s through encouragement or support.

4. Take time to think about your day and ask God to show you where you can grow.

As these habits grow, living for God becomes something that feels natural. It becomes part of who you are. And as you live with purpose, focused on obedience and love, your life becomes a reflection of God’s plan for you.

The more you give your heart to following Him, the more your influence deepens. Whether in family, friendships, or faith communities, you're showing what it looks like to love God with everything you've got. And as your relationship with God grows, your story might just help someone else take that first step too.
